The Outstanding For-Profit Neighborhood Real Estate Project Award

In the mid-1990s, ChristyWebber Landscapes, one of the city’s premiere landscape design, construction and maintenance companies, was searching for a suitable location for its expanding business. After considering numerous sites, Webber settled on a brownfield in the heart of East Garfield Park, immediately east of the City of Chicago’s Center for Green Technology.

Formerly home to an auto pound and illegal waste dump, today the 12.5-acre site has been transformed into an Eco-Industrial Park, Rancho Verde, where Webber Landscaping’s new LEED-rated building stands as a monument to the possible.

Designed and developed for Webber Landscaping by Chicago GreenWorks, the 18,000-square-foot, one-story office and industrial building incorporates water- and energy-saving features, a green roof, solar panels and a bioswale drainage system.

The development is attracting similar companies, lured by the central location, which helps it meet the community’ needs for green urban renewal and increased employment opportunities.
